Artemis 20s at UKSA

A fleet of six Artemis 20 boats are now be arriving at UKSA in Cowes, ready to provide valuable sailing opportunities, free of charge, to disadvantaged and disabled children and adults from across the country.

The Even Keel Project is due to commence at UKSA on 29th June 2009, when safe, exciting and fun sailing experiences will become available to individuals, charities, organisations and schools, regardless of ability, background or previous sailing experience. The boats can be modified for almost any type of disability and proved to be the perfect introduction to sailing.

The Even Keel Project's philosophy stems from the importance of accessibility, the idea of breaking down barriers and creating fun and functional ways of increasing participation and highlighting the fact sailing can provide an environment whereby disabled and able bodied sailors can compete together and on a level playing field - or an even keel - even at Paralympic level.  It can provide a valuable resource for many groups and purposes such as rehabilitation programmes, training venues for potential Paralympians as well as existing athletes who wish to train in a competitive environment.  It is hoped that eventually at least 10 Even Keel sites will be set up to enable sustainable sailing opportunities to disadvantaged individuals from all around the world.
