ARTEMIS
20 WINS 1ST RACE AT PORT EDGAR SCOTTISH SERIES
This weekend saw the contemporary Artemis 20 secure its
first victory at the Port Edgar Scottish Series. The stylish 20ft keelboat
flourished in the light conditions, utilising every ounce of the very light
breeze to maintain a consistent position across the fast and slow fleets.
A superb light wind performance led the Artemis to round the
1st mark in third place, and when the breeze filled in from the West
the crew steered round the rest of the course efficiently but lost the SB3 who
under spinnaker shot off. However, despite a failing spinnaker, Ian hards on
the helm held the boat firm and completed the lap in 1hr 10minutes. On
corrected time the Artemis was the winner by 25 seconds!
In race two the crew got the spinnaker flying well and
gradually overhauled both a GK24 and the Club 19. ÒWe rounded the last leeward
mark in 4th place and headed up wind towards the start. At this
point the wind completely died and as a result we lost any chance of beating
the 3 boats in front on handicap and finished 6 minutes behind them on handicap
after an hour and a half.Ó Commented Ian ÒOverall we are delighted to have
participated in such close fought competition and to have been chasing down the
SB3 is extremely satisfying!Ó
